Town of Bastrop Texas
Bastrop is located southeast of Austin on Highway 71, and is just 22 miles from Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Founded in the mid 1800's by Stephen F. Austin, Bastrop just recently celebrated its' 175th birthday. Nestled along the Colorado River the town of Bastrop offers a great mix of old and new with wonderful vintage and historic homes and store fronts downtown. Bastrop has been dubbed " the most historic small town in Texas. There are wonderful rural residential developments scattered among Bastrop's "Lost Pines". Not only can residents and visitors enjoy the beauty and ameneties of the Colorado River, they also have the benefits of the Lake Bastrop Recreational Area and Bastrop State Park to explore which are only minutes away from downtown.
The County of Bastrop
Bastrop County is a vibrant area southeast of Austin in Central Texas. Bordered to the west by Travis County, the north by Lee, the east by Fayette, and to the south by Caldwell, Bastrop County has a wonderful mix of rolling plains, intermitent pine forsests - often referred to as the "Lost Pines" areas - as well as the Colorado river valley which travels thru the County from east to west. The town of Bastrop is the county seat and is located almost directly in the middle of the county. The next largest towns are Elgin, and Smithville. Being centerally located, Bastrop County is about 30 minutes from downtown Austin, 2 hours from Houston and the Gulf Coast, an hour and a half from San Antonio, and about 4 hours from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Bastrop County has a lot to offer visitors and residents from an upscale vacation resort, to canoeing and kayaking trips down the Colorado, hiking and riding trails in the local parks, four golf courses, fishing in Lake Bastrop, and of course some of the best bar b que around!
